Miami Mansions

Pop singer Shakira agreed last week to sell one of her two Miami homes. The 3,000-square-foot white Mediterranean-style home, on a ¼-acre lot, stands on Biscayne Bay's La Gorce Island, once the site of homes owned by Cher and Bee Gees singer Maurice Gibb. New York real-estate investor Philip Shapiro signed a lease with an option to buy the house for $1.8 million. (The asking price was $2 million.) Mr. Shapiro is renting the home for $7,000 a month until the closing, which is scheduled for January. Shakira, whose hits include "Whenever, Wherever," is working on a new album and paid $1 million for the house in 2001. It has four bedrooms and two baths, a heated pool and a Jacuzzi. The singer, whose other house is on North Bay Road in Miami Beach, declined to comment. Pablo Alfaro of Esslinger Wooten and Maxwell realtors had the listing, while Coldwell Banker agents Jill Eber and Jill Hertzberg represented the buyer
