Location

Sunset Islands can be accessed via North Bay Road. The islands to the north, Sunset I and Sunset II, can be reached via 29th Street from North Bay Road. These islands are where waterfront mansions with private boat docks are zoned. Meanwhile, Sunset III and Sunset IV are located at the southern part, and may be accessed through 20th Street from North Bay Road. These islands feature designer homes on expansive acreages.

William Pawley Jr., Elizabeth Taylor’s former fiance, used to own the 255 Lake Avenue address in Sunset Islands. The 8,082-square-foot property features seven bedrooms, 150 feet of water frontage, a heated saltwater pool, a private dock, and a summer kitchen.

Lenny Kravitz is a former resident of Sunset Islands. His estate features 12,000 square foot of interior space, six bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a saltwater pool, a barbecue cabana, a meditation garden, an elevator, and a private dock.

Stephen Sawitz, owner of Joe’s Stone Crab, purchased a Sunset Islands art deco mansion in 2016. It has 5,647 square feet of interior space, six bedrooms, and a two-bedroom guest house.

Enrique Iglesisas is also one of the most famous former residents of Sunset Islands. His former home, “Villa Jasmine”, has a $22.5 million price tag.

Weather

Sunset Islands has a tropical monsoon climate. The tropical rainy season is marked by May and runs through October. Dry season starts in November and lasts through April. Interestingly, Miami Beach is the only mainland US city to never experience freezing temperatures.

There are also a number of private schools in the area, such as Rabbi Alexander S. Gross Hebrew Academy, St. Patrick Catholic School, and Mechina High School.

Transportation

From North Bay Road, you can drive to Julia Tuttle Causeway and the Venetian Causeway to get to mainland Miami Public transportation is a reliable form of transportation in Miami Beach. Many Metrobus lines connect to downtown Miami and the Metrorail. The Metrobus is also popular among commuters.

There’s also the Airport-Beach Express, a direct-service bus line that brings passengers from Miami International Airport to various points in South Beach.

The pedestrian-friendly Miami Beach has a biking culture. Decobike was launched in 2011 as a public bicycle sharing system that aims to have 1,000 bikes accessible from 100 stations throughout the Miami Beach area.

South Beach is nicknamed the American Riviera and is an Art Deco hotspot. Ocean Drive is known as the Art Deco District, a collection of buildings featuring art deco architecture. For outdoor dining and shopping, head to Lincoln Road.
